The Hornbeam, Hoe Street

The Hornbeam cafe have announced details of their events in March (and even a few in April). We went down to Hornbeam for the vegan Sunday roast the other week and it was delicious, with a good atmosphere too.

Highlights of the calendar for March are a Pancake Day event this Saturday (5 March) and the Fairtrade day next Saturday (12 March). As well as the usual treats, Hornbeam are promising a range of other Fairtrade delights to try, including chocolate and cocktails. There will also be a special menu in the actual cafe that day (did we mention the cocktails? Yum).

The Spring Up! celebration on Saturday 19 March will feature a rhubarb pizza with ultra-local rhubarb from Chingford. The website has details of all their usual events, such as the Science Fiction/Fantasy book group and knitting groups. Full details of all the events are here.

A Scumbags Valentine

This Friday night, the Hornbeam cafe is ready to wine and dine you, and introduce you to The Scumbags as well!

The vegetarian cafe on Hoe Street, near Bakers Arms, is holding a special Valentine music evening this Friday, 11 February. They have got an open mic session, DJ Robbie playing “happy disco” and a band called The Scumbags. I must admit, I know very little about The Scumbags. I think they are a four piece folk rock band from Forest Gate, but I might be wrong. Anyway, who cares, they’re called The Scumbags and they are playing a Valentine’s event, so it has to be awesome!

Doors open at 7pm, music starts at 8pm, it’s £5 on the door or in advance. The Hornbeam is a lovely little cafe which specialises in organic, locally grown food. On Friday they are also doing organic cocktails as well as wines, beers and soft drinks. Details of the event, and the cafe generally, are here.
